Fish Out of Water

-Sengkang Punggol FC Fans' Perspective-

S.League 2010 Match 13

Opponent: Etoile
Date: 12th May, 1930hrs
Venue: Jalan Besar Stadium
Final Score: 0 – 1 (Daniel Nna 75″)

The team has to take pride in defeat this time.

In perhaps the most spirited display I have seen in the longest while, the team was unfortunate not to come out with at least a point.

Fadhil Salim once again in irrepressible form between the sticks and was not at all at fault for Nna’s winning goal.
Time and again he scuppered Etoile’s barrage of chances and fitting to be the man of the match.

The defense held themselves well and overall the team played in accordance to Aide’s plan to contain the French contingent.
The second half showed that the team was liberated to go on the attacking front with Ryan Fante metamorphosing into a real target man.
He had two great instances to score in the second successive game while Murphy’s persistence nearly reaped its rewards too.

Abdoulaye and Farizal were perhaps the poorer performers but not something for me to clutch the straws with anymore as it had been so the entire season.
Jasper’s (or Dez Corkhill insisted in calling as Joey) budding development continues as I hope the rest of the team would play with fire in their bellies like our No. 35, the results would surely come.

  1. Heartening display today, i was on the edge of my seat for literally the whole 2nd half. And had my fair share of squeals and anguish when we nearly scored.

    • Haha Dez, I hope Jasper wouldn’t mind as well.

I am certain you might had mix up with another former young Dolphin in Joey Sim, now at Balestier.

      Thanks for replying here 🙂

    • The whole purpose of this blog is for posterity and also for us to externalise our thoughts on the experience as spectators/supporters, be it good or bad. This has always been our stand and we will continue to stick to it, regardless of outside forces. Boil this blog down to its essence and it’s about our own journey following a team we have affiliation for, and nothing more.

We criticize players for their performance and with valid reasons to back it up. We are not here for any political correctness contest and simply call things as it is. To us a spade is a spade and nothing more. No one reading this blog needs to agree with us and we don’t necessarily have to conform to populist views.

Everything here is as real as you can get from the two of us.

It’s great that you guys are supporting local football and more importantly, team Sengkang Punggol.
      Please continue to do so.

    • Dear Mr King,

You certainly had picked the wrong match to work on the angle about us criticizing our own players cos unless you are thoroughly illiterate, you should remotely sense that I am praising the players in the last report.

Then again credits are given when its due, likewise for criticisms.
This is a professional football scene we are talking about, professional footballer are like entertainers in the media spotlight; if they are not up to par, they will need to brace themselves for scathing remarks, be it justifiable or not.
It is far worse in Europe and South America.
So our footballers here need to adjust from their little cotton wool embryo and wake up and smell the real world.

Finally what in the blue hell is a “rubist”, plus we never talk politics for the matter of fact.

  5. I cannot agree more. The criticisms are far worse in Europe, even by the players’ own fans. Players are boo-ed, criticized and demoralized by their own fans when they do not perform or for whatever reasons they failed the club. This fan blog is keeping things real, keeping things real..And Sengkang Punggol FC is doing great, somehow just being unable to bulge that net on a regular basis. We cannot depend on just a few individuals to score, the team must adopt an attacking style, and boost their inexperienced defense with training, training and more training. Confidence is naturally on the low, and encouragement by the management and coach is needed, along with supportive team spirit.
