A back to back win since May last year. Winnable games were finally won. Another crucial aspect was that Sengkang Punggol has finally exorcised the Balestier Khalsa curse. The previous 2 encounters saw the Tigers claiming rather undeserving victories and added 6 crucial point to aid their decent position in the league table now. If Kenji Arai, the goal hero as well as the impeccable bulwark at the rear, was t9uted as the signing of the season, I think Fadhil Salim’s season long consistency ensured the gem was acquired in close season in 2009. The former Gombak United custodian had singlehandedly bailed the Sengkang Punggol defense out and in this game made some wonderful save. Without first choice fullbacks in Meng Meng and Duncan, the makeshift defense which also included recent recruitment Ratna Sufian and Azfar Zainal did well to hold Balestier at bay, though it might be the Tigers being toothless which really helped the Dolphins for another useful 3 points. The backbone of this new squad was forming shape and gaining momentum. Fadhil, Kenji and Mamadou up front look a good squad though Nor Azli had to display his passion in less destructive form but his dismissal had allowed the newly-assembled squad to show a tad more maturity in their play in maintaining the lead. As mentioned before the team had to grab as many point as they could for the remaining 10 games especially continue winning games they could and should win.
